Open Mated Queen (pre-order)
We breed our queens from our best selected colonies. These are colonies that have a low tendency to swarm, a calm temperament and produce a good quantity of honey. They are bred in Devon and are suited to the British climate.
Our queens are open mated and are usually available from late May until September (weather dependent). There is around 2 weeks waiting list for queens ordered now.
Queens will be posted on a first come first served basis marked with this year's color and in a travel cage with fondant and attendants.
Queens can be posted standard or express delivery.
Standard delivery is Royal Mail 1st class signed for service .We are not responsible for the delays in Royal Mail. We were told at post office that 1st class service can take two to three working days at the moment.
Express delivery is Royal Mail Special Delivery Guaranteed by 1pm service (tracked). Queens purchased with express delivery will still be posted on Tuesdays unless agreed prior. We do recommend to use special delivery guaranteed by 1 pm.
Please note single queen can not start a colony. You will need to introduce your queen to a nucleus of bees or to an existing colony.
Who we are
North Devon Queens was set up in 2021 by Kacper and Matt who are both passionate about bees and beekeeping.
Our goal is to produce the finest quality British bred Queens, Nucs and honey in an environmentally considerate way from our base near South Molton in North Devon.
Between us we have over 16 years of raising bees and beekeeping, both in the UK and across Europe and we are members of the British Bee Farmers Association.
We produce Queens and Nucs for both the commerical and hobby beekeeping market and are able to ship our Queens throughout the country.
In 2024 our honey was awarded Three Gold Stars at the prestigious Taste of the West awards which recognise exceptional locally produced produce in the South West. We can often be found selling our honey at local Farmers Markets or online via our shop.
